PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria City Council members voted Tuesday to approve a contract with Ring Security. The contract says The City of Peoria will buy 1,000 cameras at a discounted price. Beyond that, Ring will match a $50 subsidy from the City of Peoria, giving neighbors a discount of $100 on the cameras.
Concerns were raised Tuesday that the cost would still be too much for some residents. Councilman Jim Montelongo said he spoke with representatives from Ring and they quoted the price of the cameras at $189-$200. The service fee for Ring would cost neighbors $3 a month.
This budget amendment costs the city $50,000.
The goal is to prevent property crime and keep homeowners safe.
