PEORIA, Ill — On Tuesday, at the next Peoria City Council meeting, members will consider whether to purchase Ring security cameras and video doorbells. According to the City Council agenda, the equipment allows people to see, hear and speak with those on camera from remote locations.
Under the plan the city would purchase 1,000 cameras at a discounted rate then sell them to homeowners at a discount.
The agreement says the program will enhance security and safety within the Peoria community. The plan would cost the city $50,000.
At the same time, the Peoria Police Department is asking those with security camera systems to register them with the city in an effort to help solve crime.
