PEORIA, Ill. — Illinois American Water partnered with the Sun Foundation for the 27th annual “Clean Water Celebration” on Sunday.
They kicked off the celebration on the Peoria riverfront, which is a source of drinking water. Along with the Native American blessing of the water– they discussed what can be done to protect the water and environment.
This is all in an effort to make sure the city has safe water for now and future generations.
“One of the biggest issues we have is valuing our drinking water. We turn on the tap and it’s just there and we really don’t think about what goes into making that happen,” Illinois American Water spokesperson Karen Cotton said. “There’s a lot of treatment that has to happen to make it safe for you to turn on the tap and to trust it.”
The water celebration continues tomorrow with an environmental classroom full of interactive exhibits and breakout sessions for the community to participate in.
