Continuing with your election coverage, WMBD caught up with both Peoria County Sheriff candidates as the polls were opening up this morning.
Incumbent Sheriff Brian Asbell held a rally kickoff at Jubilee Cafe in Kickapoo, and Bartonville Police Chief Brian Fengel held his rally at Homestyle Grille in Bartonville.
We asked both candidates to say one thing nice about each other as the race comes down to the wire.
Fengel: “If anybody knows me and how I am, I’m generally a nice guy anyway. So I treat people with respect and I think that’s what I would say.. I’m gonna treat him with respect – and even though the campaign is moving forward, I think putting politics aside, you’ve probably got two good candidates running, but I am the one who has 21 years of law enforcement executive experience and have been to the best schools in the nation. FBI, DEA, Secret Service.”
Asbell: “He’s got a strong, powerful first name. Besides that, Chief Fengel has done a great job in Bartonville. What he’s done especially with senior services, and being proactive in senior crimes.. hats off to him. He’s been involved in legislation that’s helped us in this whole profession and getting a lot of that job done.”
