The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a new phone scam.

The office said it has received several calls from citizens stating they have either gotten phone calls and or mail asking for money to support the Illinois Police Association. The mail address is from Wisconsin, and the phone number that they are calling from is 309-832-0500.

The sheriff’s office believes the calls are prerecorded. If you call this number back, it asks for your full name, phone number and mailing address so you can be put on the Do Not Call list.

These are spam calls; officers do not solicit money by mail or over the phone.

The sheriff’s office said to hang up on the caller and/or throw the mail away.
