Peoria double shooting leaves 4-year-old Jeremiah Ward dead

PEORIA, Ill. — A 4-year-old-boy is dead after a Monday evening shooting. 

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood confirmed the sad news after he left the hospital. He says 4-year-old Jeremiah Ward was pronounced dead at 6:36 p.m.

The Peoria Police Department responded to the scene on West Ann near South Oregon just after 5:30 p.m. When officers arrived they found the two victims in the parking lot of an apartment complex. 

The 4-year-old boy was immediately transported to a hospital. The 23-year-old adult man was shot in the leg and is expected to recover. 

Peoria Police Public Information Officer Amy Dotson said 22 rounds were fired. 

At this point there is no word on suspects.
