FON DU LAC PARK, Ill.– A Peoria Fire Department boat hit a sandbar and got stuck early Saturday morning.

The Fon du Lac Park District Director Mike Johnson said he thinks the firefighters were getting familiar with the boat.

“Water levels were low where they were at and the boat ran aground. We were able to pull them off sandbar without incident,” he said. “It was not their fault. They were close to channel. The levels just change quickly in that area.”

The Fon du Lac Park Police Department said on Facebook, “Remember, if you’re out at night on the river, pay attention to the channel markers. Water depths are shallow outside of the channel.”
