PEORIA, Ill. - The Peoria Fire Department is investigating what caused fire to break out at a self storage facility on North Hale Avenue, Sunday morning.
Crews responded to reports that smoke and a strong burning smell were coming from the facility behind Tim's Ace Hardware. Firefighters cut the locks on several storage units in the far, back, left area and found one with heavy fire inside. The unit appears to have been holding home contents. The fire spread to the units on either side, as well. After the flames were put out, crews found another fire inside a separate unit. The fire was inside a plastic container filled with papers and books.
Damage from the fires total about $100,000. The incident is under investigation.
