PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill–Leaders in Peoria Heights continue aiming to make the area a destination for businesses and visitors.  On Tuesday, work began on a new boutique hotel, which will be called The Atrium.

Mayor Mike Phelan says the Village has come a long way and that this new development will be great for the future of Peoria Heights.

“Gary Pearl, who has his Pearl Technologies here, we were first talking about this, this is an idea I didn’t have, the mayor was talking to me about it, Gary Pearl was talking to me about it.  He has all these people going into Peoria to stay when they’re out here for meetings.  So it means a lot to those folks where they can stay, walk, and work and go to their offices over here in Pearl,” said Citizen Investor Kim Blickenstaff.

The Atrium will be located at 4617 N. Prospect Road in Peoria Heights.  Peoria Heights Mayor Mike Phelan says this will be a great step for the Village.

“We’ve been a destination for outdoor dining and we’ve been a destination for events, and now we think we’re gonna be a destination where people are gonna stay in the hotel for a day or two whether they’re on business or they’re on leisure,” said Peoria Heights Mayor Mike Phelan.

Phelan says while the hotel is being built with private money, it will bring tax revenue into the Village.
