Peoria Heights council approves home owner’s fence variance

PEORIA HEIGHT’S, Ill.– Tuesday Peoria Heights council members allow a resident to rebuild his fence.

Initially the Zoning Board of Appeals decided to not grant a variance to Peoria Heights homeowner, Mickey Donarksi, but the Village reversed the decision.

“Some were concerned about the public safety aspect, about the fence blocked visibility. I think we resolved that tonight by having the fence moved back,” Peoria Heights Mayor (D) Michael Phelan said.

Donarksi did not follow the city’s ordinance when he initially hired contractors to build his fence. Phelan said Donarksi will have to take down his fence, but is allowed to have it rebuilt after going through proper channels and getting appropriate permits.

“I going to get a proper survey done, I am going to get the fence moved onto my property and I think it will all blow over soon,” Donarski said.
