Peoria Historical Society announces 24th season of tours

Local News

PEORIA, Ill. — The Peoria Historical Society announced its lineups of local history tours set from August-October this year.

“Notable Peoria Women” tells the stories of prominent Peoria women, including the three who are members of the National Women’s Hall of Fame: Lydia Moss Bradley, Betty Friedan, and Nancy Goodman Brinker.

“Art & Architecture” visits downtown, the historic Randolph Roanoke and Warehouse Districts.

“Grandview Drive/Springdale” takes in a portion of Grandview Drive, with the majority of time touring Springdale Cemetery.

For fans of ghost stories, there is “Haunted Peoria” in October, which last year sold out by early summer.

“Lincoln and the Civil War” and the popular “River City Tour” round out the schedule for the season.

The final tour of each month includes a “tours plus” feature, making an additional stop at a special, related site. Information about these and other tours is available on the society’s website.

Tickets for the tours, which are 90 minutes, are $15 and may be purchased by calling the Peoria Historical Society office, Tuesday through Friday at (309) 674-1921, at the Society’s Facebook page, or at the PHS office at 611 SW Washington.
