Peoria Holocaust Memorial Breaks Ground on New Location

Local News

A memorial meant to remind people about the consequences of hate and intolerance will soon open in a new location.

After more than 10 years at the Shoppes at Grand Prairie, the Peoria Holocaust Memorial, broke ground today on a new location outside of the Peoria Riverfront Museum.

When a group of people in Central Illinois united to create the memorial in 2001, their discussion led to choosing “a button” as the visual image to represent each of the 11 million people lost.

Directors of the memorial, say that the Peoria community has a responsibility to show that it will not stand by and forget the past, and hopes the city accepts the role to educate future generations.
