Peoria man sentenced to 40 years for murder

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD)  – A Peoria man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the death of his girlfriend.

Brandon Scott, 29, entered a guilty plea in Peoria County court Tuesday as part of an agreement with the state. He was accused of strangling his girlfriend Erica Jones last June and setting their Saratoga Street home on fire to cover up the murder. He was also badly burned in the blaze.

As part of the plea agreement Scott pleaded guilty to charges of first degree murder. The arson charges were dismissed through the deal.
