Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis optimistic about new at-large city council members

The city of Peoria has some new faces on the city council, but they are not new to the Peoria area.

Rita Ali serves as the Vice President of Diversity and Community Impact at Illinois Central College.

John Kelly, a Bergan High School graduate, is on the Downtown Redevelopment Commission among other groups.

Peoria’s Mayor Jim Ardis is looking forward to the new additions to the council, and thinks they will help push the city in the right direction.

“Even though the two new people are new to the city council, they’re not new to Peoria, they’re not new to these issues. to the extent that it’s a fresh voice on the council, that’ll be good.  It’s always good to have a fresh voice, new ideas, and different ways to look at things,” said Ardis.

“Change is a good thing, and I look forward to serving with Dr. Ali and John Kelly.  I look forward to having them on the council.  We have a lot of good things coming up too, it’ll be nice to have a new perspective and a couple new voices,” Ardis said.

Ali and Kelly join incumbents Sid Ruckriegel, Zach Oyler, and Beth Jensen as the five at-large city council members. Ardis says the combination of new at-large council members with three incumbents will provide a good and healthy balance to the entire council.
