UPDATE: Police say SUV occupants have serious injuries after School Bus crash on Jefferson and Bryan

UPDATE(10:30 p.m.) — The Peoria Fire Department released more information about an SUV school bus crash that occurred near Jefferson and Bryan Monday.

According to a Peoria Fire Department press release, the SUV suffered major front-end damage, and the front passenger was trapped inside.

The jaws of life and other tools were used to free the trapped passenger. All the SUV’s four occupants were transported to a local hospital with injuries ranging from serious to life-threatening injuries.

Peoria Police Traffic Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.

According to Peoria Police Public Information Officer Semone Roth, the injuries of all the SUV’s four occupants are considered serious, with some considered life-threatening.

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — The Peoria Police and Fire Department closed an Intersection due to a crash involving a Peoria Public Schools bus Monday night.

According to Public Information Officer, Semone Roth, police were called to Jefferson Street and Bryan Street regarding a collision between a SUV and a school bus around 6 p.m. Monday night. No word what caused the accident.

Roth said all of the kids on the bus have been accounted for. She also said several kids on board were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The occupants of the SUV were also transported to a local hospital.

Director of Communications and Community Engagement for Peoria Public Schools Thomas Bruch said there were about 10 students on board at the time of the crash, and the injuries they sustained ranged from bruises to cuts.

According to Peoria Emergency Communications Center ECC Training Supervisor Thomas E. Murfin, The Intersection of Bryan Avenue and Jefferson Street has been closed. The intersection of NE Adams and Bryan is also closed.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area.
