Peoria Police, Fire Departments investigating arson on River City’s South Side

Local News

PEORIA, Ill.–The Peoria Fire and Police Departments are investigating three different instances of arson on Griswold Street in the River City’s South Side.

The three events of arson occurred Wednesday on the 1600 block of Griswold Street and all in a 24 hour period.

Police say the owner of the home, Lawrence Burns, was arrested days prior for aggravated battery with a firearm.

Around 2 o’clock Wednesday morning, firefighters were called to Burns’ house to put out a fire.

Later that day, another fire occurred at the same house.

Firefighters told police a window had been doused with gas.

But that wasn’t the last call, a third and final fire took place around 10:30 that night in Burns’ garage.

“There were three fires at the same residence on Griswold in a 24 hour period and they’re under investigation right now. It is unusual for us to have three fires at the same residence in a 24 hour period,” said Division Chief of Operations Jim Bachman with the Peoria Fire Department.

“We have two arson investigators working alongside the Peoria Police Department looking into these incidents and trying to piece together what happened. If there’s anybody out there with information please contact the Peoria Fire Department or Peoria Police Department,” Bachman said.

Authorities are still looking for suspects. If you have any information, you’re asked to call the Peoria Fire and Police Departments.
