Peoria Police officer shot on duty is released from hospital

The Peoria Police Department has confirmed that the officer shot Thursday has been released from the hospital.

At this time, police are still withholding the identity of that officer.

On Thursday, February 1 police say they were conducting a traffic stop when 33 year old Daniel El, of Peoria Heights, allegedly fled in his vehicle and eventually lost control. Police say he then fled on foot.

Near the 2700 block of Southwest Jefferson, shots between the victim and police were fired. One officer was injured in the gunfire and El was killed.

The Peoria Coroner's Office says El was shot sixteen times.

Illinois State Police are still investigating the incident and all officers involved in the shooting are on critical incident leave.
