PEORIA, Ill. – Your local library might now be the perfect place for both reading and exercise.
The Peoria Public Library and Peoria Park District finally cut the ribbon on their 2-year project, StoryWalk.
Right outside the McClure Branch of the Peoria Libraries lies Columbia Park. As you take a stroll through the park, you can read a picture book. Various posts around the park each have a page in a storybook. Families and children can enjoy the park while reading a story.
Reference assistants Gwen Ayler and Katy Bauml helped bring StoryWalk to Peoria.
“I just thought this would be a great thing for the families to do together, keep them moving and reading,” said Ayler. “Most of the families who come to the park visit the library the exact same time, the same day, so I just thought it would be a great package deal.”
“Every other week we’re going to be changing the book out, so you can make it an every other week or you can comeback and re-read it,” said Bauml. “It’s just something different in Peoria and you can come from anywhere and read it.”
The stories are to be updated every two weeks.
