Peoria ranks among Top 10 Cities of Golf Courses Per Capita in U.S.

PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria is ranked among the top 10 cities for golfers in new data from Rent.com, an apartment search website.

Rent.com took cities with populations of more than 100,000 according to the U.S. Census Bureau July 2018 estimates and used more than 8 million commercially available business listings to add up the number of golf courses with a mailing address in each city.

Each city’s population was divided by this total to determine a ratio of the number of golf courses for each resident to come up with a quantitative ranking.

Peoria’s 11 golf courses helped it make the top 10. Some notable courses include Kellogg Golf Course, WeaverRide Golf Club and Newman Golf Course.

“With one golf course for every 10,262 Peorians, this heartland college town’s greens can be at your doorstep for just $654 on average for a one-bedroom apartment,” Rent.com said.

Springfield also made the list, ranking in the top 5. It features 13 courses, one for every 8,836 Springfieldian, Rank.com said.

Coming in at number 1 is West Palm Beach in Florida, with 23 golf courses, one for every 4,792 residents.
