Person dead after being trapped in a house fire in Peoria

One person is dead after being trapped in a house fire Tuesday night in Peoria. 

Just before midnight, Peoria fire crews were called to the 1800 block of West Kettelle Street. When firefighters arrived on scene, they found heavy smoke coming from the front door and the attic window. Three search crews went into the house lookng for a trapped person. Within four minutes, the resident was found, removed from the house, and taken to a local hospital. 

The resident of the home, 65-year-old Crotchie L. Forrester, was transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, unresponsive, and not breathing. Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said despite aggressive resuscitative efforts, Forrester was pronounced deceased at OSF in the trauma room at 12:24 a.m.

Harwood said Forrester died of smoke inhalation and that toxicology is pending.   

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
