CHILLICOTHE, Ill. (WMBD) — UPDATE: Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood reports 89-year-old Harold Huffman, of Chillicothe, was pronounced dead on the scene at 10:50 a.m. and was the lone occupant of the minivan.

Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell said the pickup truck driver, 51-year-old Thomas Hackett of Chillicothe, was cited for driving in the wrong lane. He is in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

On Thursday, just after 10:00 a.m., the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, Chillicothe Fire Department, and Advanced Medical Transport responded to the 14700 block of Old Galena Rd., just North of Wilkens Dr., in rural Peoria County, for a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision with injuries.

On arrival to the scene, responders found two vehicles off the road and in the ditch.

According to Sheriff Asbell, the crash occurred when Hackett driving northbound in a pickup truck crossed the center line, hitting Huffman’s minivan driving southbound, near head-on.

Autopsy findings this morning on Huffman demonstrate that he suffered multiple blunt force trauma injuries and he likely died instantly. Toxicology is pending.

Capt. Chris Watkins with the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the deadly crash Thursday morning.
