A Peoria community is getting a complete remodel worth nearly $20,000,000.
Very soon, Pierson Hills will be known as Parkwood Commons, an affordable housing company based in Ohio is purchasing 100 units at Pierson HIlls and plans to bring energy into the neighborhood.
“We’ve had some renovation over the years, but nothing like what Wallich is talking about. So we’re really excited that they’re coming into this community and taking on this project and really make a difference for the lives of so many families who really need safety and affordable housing,” said Upgrade’s Executive Director Eugene Gathers.
Wallick Communities is coming into Pierson Hills, and turning it into something new and vibrant for the West side community.
“Some of the exterior elements include new windows, new doors, new siding, new roofs. Interior will be all new. New flooring, new cabinets, appliances, painting, adding new light fixtures,” said Wallick’s Vice President Alexis Dunfee.
Renovating the 100 units wasn’t enough, Wallick wanted to really make this a place families could grow, live, and socialize by creating a community building.
“We’ll also have some resident ammenities, like a computer room, a “great room,” is what we call it. But it has a kitchenette, someplace that residents could have birthday parties or have resident meetings. And that will also have an exterior space with a patio and a brand new playground as well,” said Dunfee.
This project has been a long time coming, and Eugene Gathers is joyful it is finally happening.
“We’ve been at it now for about 5 years trying to get this development going, and I have to thank Wallick for sticking with it, and I have to thank the city of Peoria for lending their willingness to lend their support in anyway they can to get this off the ground,” said Gathers.
City Councilman Chuck Grayeb is meeting with the Sterling Oaks Neighborhood Association Thursday night to discuss the project. We will keep you update on any changes or updates that happen.
