AMT had over 600 patients and nearly 800 doses of narcan in 2016, showing that multiple doses are sometimes necessary. When narcan was introduced, trucks began carrying four doses, now they carry 10.
The price of a 2 milligram dose of narcan has increased from a few cents up to around $30 dollars.
“An opium narcotic is so dangerous that it decreases a person’s respiratory drive. There breathing slows, and eventually stops, so we give two milligrams and wait for a response,” says Josh Bradshaw, Community Research Manager of AMT
