Police kill ‘vicious’ pit bull after attack in South Peoria

Local News

Peoria police officers shot and killed a pit bull after two adults were reportedly injured in South Peoria on Thursday.

The PPD was called to the area of Livingston and Hayes at around 8:07 a.m. on a report of five loose pit bulls that had attacked a man. Officers found two adult victims with injuries from the dogs. One victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the other declined medical treatment.

A third person was attacked, but was not bitten, the PPD said.

The owner of the dogs was cited by the Peoria County Animal Protection Services (PCAPS).

Officers shot and killed one of the pit bulls. The other three dogs were taken into custody by PCAPS; Only four dogs were involved and not five as originally reported.

Police activated the CodeRED system, alerting the neighborhood that PPD and PCAPS were attempting to find the dogs and to stay inside until the scene was safe.
