PEORIA, Ill. — If you want to help the city fight crime, you’ll soon have the chance.

Peorians can now enroll for an upcoming Citizen Police Academy hosted by the Peoria Police Department. Presentations will take place every Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. from Oct. 9 through Nov. 20.

The purpose of the academy is to give residents a better understanding of the operations of the PPD and to provide a forum for police officers and residents to interact in an informal setting.

Participants will learn about burglary prevention, patrol operations, criminal investigations and much more.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and successfully pass a background check.

Applications are available at the Peoria Police Department website at http://www.peoriagov.org/peoria-police-department/neighborhood-programs/.
