Sub-zero temperatures closed many schools Wednesday and Thursday and now those days are causing a ripple effect.
A post on the Peoria Public Schools Facebook says “Due to the sustained subzero temperatures affecting the mechanical reliability of the buses and their safety, Peoria Public Schools will be closed Friday, February 1.”
District spokesman Thomas Bruch tells WMBD the issue is that the diesel fuel in the busses was gelling, making the busses unreliable.
District leaders say they’ll again have students use Learning Anywhere and Anytime to keep up on their studies.
Their teachers will be available through email between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
