Could PPS enact later start times district wide? District leaders have began another discussion on this topic, leaders say they plan to explore all avenues before making any decisions. Thursday night was the first of many meetings for PPS. Leaders focused on how this would affect transportation if this change was made Thursday.
Advocates say there are several benefits to start time after 8 a.m. for all schools. The biggest benefit of this change of course, students will have the opportunity to get more hours of sleep. say more sleep would lead to better grades and attendance. Thursday leaders explored what the bus routes would look like under this scenario. The district said there are plenty of moving pieces and each meeting a new topic will be brought up.
“The committee’s only job is to deliberate look at all the information we can get and make a recommendation to the board,” said Board President Dan Adler. “Ultimately the Board of Education is going to make the call on this.”
The committee will continue talking about this and have a plan for the district to vote on by early March.
