A new summer camp looks to help incoming high school freshman with social and emotional learning skills.
Peoria Public schools is kicking off its first summer program , Winning, at Peoria High School next month , Focusing on social and emotional instruction, career exposure and mentoring.
The district is looking for volunteer mentors who want to make a difference in the community.
“We want this commitment to be a four year commitment,” said Derrick Booth Dir. Of Social and emotional learning. He added, “our goal is that these mentors will be on the other side of the stage, when those students walk across the stage in four years and into their career field.”
Officials hope the summer camp will help students feel more comfortable entering a new school.
