Students at Peoria Public Schools may get to sleep in a little later if the school board votes to push back the start time 30 minutes.

The district says the later start time would allow teachers the opportunity to meet before school in professional learning communities.

Right now, teachers meet at different times during the school day, which requires the need of substitutes to fill in. The district adds the move could save them an estimated $500,000.

Superintendent Dr. Kherat says the proposal is a good compromise, this way the district won’t have to get rid of professional learning communities completely.

Kherat adds, “The proposal would still allow PLC’s to happen, but now it would occur in the morning, 3 times a week instead of 5 times throughout the school day.”
