Republican Representative Rodney Davis appears to have narrowly beat out Democrat Betsy Dirksen Londrigan to keep his seat for Illinois’ 13th Congressional District.

About 4,000 votes separated the two. WMBD’s Rebecca Brumfield was in Springfield at Cafe Moxo for Dirksen Londrigan’s Election watch party.

Supporters hoped Dirksen Londrigan would be able to implement her healthcare plan. Her ideas form around stabilizing the Affordable Care Act, taking care of people with pre-existing conditions, and keeping Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

Supporters say they’re still hoping for change.

“So many Republicans had to flip on their position on pre-existing conditions,” said Dirksen Londrigan supporter Vickie Moseley. “They had voted against them all the way through. And now all of a sudden, they’re singing this ‘oh no, we want to protect pre-existing conditions.’ We’re going to hold them to that.”

Dirksen Londrigan’s campaign says she won’t be making any public statements following this extremely close race.

Raquel Martin from our sister station WCIA covered Davis’ campaign watch. That coverage can be found here.
