Protecting your pets from the frigid temps

Local News

With these sub-zero temperatures hitting the city, pet safety is a high priority.

If you end up taking a dog on a walk make sure to thoroughly wipe off its legs and stomach. They can easily ingest salt, antifreeze or other potentially dangerous chemicals while licking their paws. Employees from the Peoria Humane Society say pet owners should bring their animals inside to protect them from severe winter weather.

“It’s not something that they can handle for very long,” said Kitty Yanko, with PHS. She adds, “Frostbite can even happen with a thick coated animals, certainly with dogs and cats that don’t have much hair.”
