UPDATE: Putnam County two-vehicle crash, two dead

GRANVILLE, Ill.– A Spring Valley man and his passenger died from a two-vehicle crash in northern Putnam County.

At approximately 3:33 p.m. Friday, Putnam County Sheriff’s officers responded to a crash at the intersection of IL Hwy 89 and 1250 N in Granville Township.

Authorities said 62-year-old Laurence E. Sieg was attempting to turn north onto IL Hwy 89 from 1250N. As he proceeded into the intersection, he pulled into the path a vehicle traveling southbound and was struck on the driver’s side.

Sieg was pronounced dead at the scene, but his passenger, 66-year-old Debra L. Sieg was transported from the scene by Life Flight to OSF St. Frances Hospital.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office was notified Saturday at 1:36 p.m. that Debra died at 1:15 p.m. from the injuries she sustained from the crash.

The vehicle traveling southbound was driven by a 17-year-old juvenile from McNabb. The juvenile was transported by Peru Ambulance to St. Margaret’s hospital in Spring Valley. The juvenile was treated and released from St. Margaret’s.

The cause of the accident is unknown at this time and is currently under investigation.
