McLean county has surpassed its recycling benchmark for the second year in a row. The Ecology Action Center set a goal for the county of having 40% of its residents recycle. In 2016 the county broke that by having 41% and in 2017 they increased to 42%.
The center says this is because the community has been involved in recycling for over 30 years.
The EAC now has a new goal for the county and that is to have 50% of its residents recycle. They say even though the recycling has improved there’s still more the community can do.
“Multi-family housing is largely unserved by recycling services,” said Michael Brown, Executive Director of the EAC. “We are trying to address that and a good example is right now the Town of Normal is looking at a multi-family recycling ordinance that will require rental companies to offer recycling to their tenants.”
Thursday night the EAC was in Normal City Hall discussing the multi-family city ordinance and what this may mean for the county.
The Council is set to discuss the ordinance further in one of their upcoming meetings.
