PEORIA - Thousands of people remain displaced, without food, shelter and other basic needs. Families in Texas, Florida, Georgia, and Louisiana are relying on the efforts of volunteers to begin to slowly piece their life back together.
In the midst of all this devastation, The American Red Cross Central and Southern Illinois Region is recruiting as many volunteers as possible to send to the aid of those affected by the recent string of hurricanes. The Red Cross plans to deploy more volunteers in the next coming days and weeks as the need for recovery efforts continues to grow.
In order to expedite the process, the Red Cross is offering a special fast track training program, Just In Time, for those interested in deploying to the aid of those affected by Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Harvey.
The training session is free, but registration is requested. After the completion of Just In Time, and a background check participants will be eligible to volunteer alongside the Red Cross.
Two Just In Time sessions will be offered in Peoria;
· Saturday, September 16- Red Cross office, 311 W. John H. Gwynn Jr., Ave., Peoria IL
· Saturday, October 7- Red Cross office, 311 W. John H. Gwynn Jr., Ave., Peoria IL
One session will be offered in Bloomington;
· Saturday, September 30- Red Cross Office, One Westport Court, Bloomington, IL
Information on other sessions is available on the Red Cross website. All sessions are from 8:00am- 5:00pm. To register contact Laura.firstname.lastname@example.org or 309-662-0500 ext. 7428.
If you are not able to deploy for immediate relief efforts, but would still like to help those affected; a $10 donation can be made by texting the word IRMA to 90999.
