You don’t need special powers to be a superhero, and on Wednesday — blood is all you need.
The American Red Cross Summer Super Hero Blood Drive has taken over the Par-a-dice Hotel in East Peoria. Organizers say blood donors are the real heroes because every 2 seconds in the United States someone in a medical emergency needs blood.
Unfortunately, summer is one of the worst villains.
“We lose about 20 percent of our donors because we’re not in the schools and people are out on traveling vacations. So it is really critical for people to stop on by any blood drive possible to help save lives,” said spokesperson Tony Baker.
The event coincides with World Blood Donor Day which celebrates donors and raises awareness of safe blood products.
