This Memorial Day falls on the 100 year anniversary of the end of World War 1 and The Veterans of Foreign War Association in Bloomington will be honoring veterans for their service.
They will be placing flags on the graves of the fallen heroes at five different cemeteries in the Bloomington area. The VFW Post 454 said they are honored and excited to do this every year and they are expecting to see a large turnout this year.
“Its kind of an honor for us because we are paying respect to those that paid that supreme sacrifice,” said Jim Waters, Quartermaster for VFW Post 454. “It’s just our way of showing them and their family that we haven’t forgotten them.”
They will begin the flag placing at 8 a.m. at East Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, and at 8 a.m. at Park Hill Cemetery. The other cemeteries included, St. Mary’s, St. Joseph’s and East Twin Grove will also begin at 8 a.m.
They say they already have over 1,100 flags.
