7 war heroes were honored today in Washburn for their outstanding service and sacrifice. This afternoon the American Legion Post 661 unveiled banners in the city to dedicate and remember their fallen friends.
Leaders of the event say, despite gathering for a sad event, they are happy so many community members came out to support.
“All these people have lost somebody so it’s comforting to sit there and talk with someone whose been down the path that you are going,” said Robert Lear, Sons of American Legion Squadron, Sergeant at Arms.
The event was especially memorable to Lear who dedicated a speech, that moved him to tears, to his little brother who was being honored along with the others.
Lear said what keeps him going is the community and the support he and his family have received through it all.
