PEORIA, Ill. — A recent report lists Peoria as the best retirement location in Illinois.
The city also ranks among the top 50 places in the country.
Kiplinger, a financial publisher based in Washington, D.C., compiled its data by looking at the state’s tax rating, as well as the average income, cost of living, median income and safety for retirees. According to the study, the cost of living in Peoria is just below 6% the national average, and housing costs for senior citizens is 20.8% below the national average.
The publisher said the average cost of a private room at a nursing home as $6,800 per month, which is about $1,600 less than the U.S. median.
