A volunteer from the Salvation Army is in Texas to help with hurricane relief efforts.

Sharon Amick left from Peoria International Airport earlier today to join other volunteers lending a helping hand in Texas.

The nonprofit has sent mobile units to Texas, and Florida, after both states were hit hard by hurricanes. So far it’s been one of the largest disaster relief efforts the Salvation Army has helped with.

“I don’t think you can ever be really prepared for it,” says Amick. “I can visualize what it is and I’m feeling sad for them. But I also know that there are enough of of out there that we’re going to help them get through it.”

Amick is just one of many volunteers that’s been deployed to either Texas or Florida in the past few days.
