Semi fire closes Route 24 in Peoria County

PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. — A fully engulfed semi has shut down part of Route 24 in Peoria County.

Illinois State Police said just before 1:00 p.m. Monday, a truck tractor with a semi-trailer was slowing down on the right shoulder of Route 24 near Cameron Lane when a car tried to pass by. The two vehicles collided and a fire broke out.

The driver of the car, Dale Massey, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injures. The driver of the truck, Jimmie Bahr did not need to be hospitalized.

Route 24 westbound reopened at 2:30 p.m.; the eastbound lanes are expected to reopen at 4:00 p.m.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
