A McLean County family who lost a loved one is now getting more than $2 million from the county in a settlement.
In May of 2015, John Hoeniges, who was 56, was found dead at the bottom of an elevator shaft at the Law and Justice Center. Fire officials say he was crushed under the counterweight of the elevator.
The Pantagraph reports the Hoeniges family will receive $2.1 million in the agreement filed this week. Money will come from the firm that maintains the elevators, the company that inspects the elevators and the county itself.
