PEORIA COUNTY, Ill — Friends and family gather in remembrance of a fallen Peoria County deputy killed in the line of duty.

Sheriff Brian Asbell re-dedicated the memorial sign of deputy James Mulay.
The ceremony took place at the intersection of Old Galena and Cedar Hills drive. Sheriff Asbell wants people to understand and follow the message on the sign.

“Below Jim’s sign, it says don’t drink and drive. That’s the message, no more impaired driving, distracted driving, it’s the same message. Be safe when you’re on the roadways, everyone deserves the right to go home at the end of the night,” said Sheriff Asbell.

Deputy Mulay was in a patrol car when he was killed by a drunk driver in May of 2003.
