PEORIA, Ill. — Donned in their red, white, and blue, soccer fans eagerly watched the World Cup final Sunday morning.

Olympia Sports Bar & Grill and The Fox Pub both opened their doors to fans, with food and drink specials.

“The whole world is watching this game right now. So, just knowing that my country is a part of it is just awesome,” said Brynn Beenders.

Across the country, Americans were confident in the team’s ability to perform.

“I’m very excited for USA, and I think they’ll clench it,” said Renae Dietrich.

Team USA was favored heading into the finals against the Netherlands, but that didn’t make fans any calmer.

“It’s intense and awesome at the same time…I have butterflies,”said Faith Korter.

At halftime, no team had scored.

“They’ve done really well against every other team, so I know they have it in them,” said Beender.

61 minutes into the game, USA finally scored.

“I am very excited, they seem aggressive, they seem as a team,” said Dietrich.

Less than 10 minutes later, another goal. As time ticked, USA continued to fight.

Eventually, Team USA won, beating the Netherlands 2-0.

The team defends their title and claims their fourth world title. Team USA was also World Cup champions in 1991, 1999, and 2015.
