South Side, Busey to merge, branches to close

PEKIN, Ill. - Several local banks will close within days since the merger between Busey Bank and South Side Savings Trust and Bank will finally be completed.

In less than 48-hours, South Side Bank locations will transition to the Busey name.

Some people WMBD talked to off camera say that this closure will impact their day to day activities now that they have to plan a trip to a different bank location.

Other's weren't even aware the closure was happening by the end of the week.

"I'd hate to see it go away or close," says Terry Howell.

For Terry Howell, a frequent flyer at Busey Bank in Pekin says he's not too happy about the bank closing here on Court Street.

"I stop by at this location probably two to three times a week," says Howell. "Because to me, it's more convenient than downtown."

This isn't the only location to close due to the merger. South Side Bank on SW Adams in downtown Peoria is also closing it's doors.

Even then, Howell says he's not looking forward to changing his daily plans just to be able to go to the bank.

"Disappointed really," says Howell. "Just from the fact that I'll be- I'll have to go to a different location, but they're going to do what they want to do anyway."

Other locations that are closing there doors:

Busey Branches

  • 405 N William Kumpf Blvd
  • 6699 N Sheridan Road
  • 7810 N Route 91

"I would suggest leaving it here because they're going to disappoint a lot of people," says Howell.
