Steamboat Days carnival canceled due to high waters from Illinois River

Local News

PEORIA, Ill.- A popular summer carnival along the Peoria Riverfront  will not happen this year.

Steamboat Days is canceled due to high waters in the Illinois River.

Peoria Area Community Events, or PACE, made the announcement on its Facebook page just a little while ago.

The group says the space reserved for the carnival is flooded and will not be clean and ready in time for a safe and timely event.

Though it tried, it was unable to find an alternative location in such a short time.

This cancellation doesn’t appear to be making any changes to the run, in fact, the organization is asking for volunteers.

Race changes include:

Starting Line – All events will start on Main Street adjacent to the Peoria County Court House:
·7:00 a.m. – Wheelchair 4 Mile
·7:05 a.m. – 4 Mile Run/Walk and 15 Kilometer (9.3 miles) Run
·8:05 a.m. – Two Mile Fun Run/Walk

Finish Line – All events will finish on Main Street adjacent to the Caterpillar Visitors Center near Water Street. 4 Mile participants will finish on the north side of Main; and 15K & 2 Mile participants will finish on the south side of Main.

Courses Changes
·All events will continue southeast on Madison to Main Street, turn left onto Main Street, and proceed straight to the new Finish Line location.
·Due to safety issues created by the heavy rainfall on an unmaintained road in Glen Oak Park 15K Course, 15K participants will complete three (3) 1.76 Mile loops through the park (see 15K Course Loop Detail).

Post-Race Party – The Post-Race Party will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Peoria Riverfront Museum East Lawn, Sculpture Garden, and Sun Plaza and Water Street. The Post-Race Party will feature entertainment by the Corn Wolves, beverages from Bud Light and Pepsi, and assorted snacks. The Awards Ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m.
