Students at the Pearl Technology/Richwoods Township STEM Academy are incorporating astronomical studies into their summer curriculum.
Using cameras, tracking devices, and radio signals, the group launched a balloon near space Thursday. Through the camp, kids get to have a hands-on approach to learning how the atmosphere works.
“It’s a lot of fairly difficult material,” says Dave Johnson, President of Pearl Technology. “The more hands-on that you can do with them, they actually helped build the payload that’s going up on the balloon.”
Later this summer, students will talk with astronauts on the International Space Station.
