Wednesday night the Unit 5 School District was called out for not adequately paying substitute teachers.

Pamela Etcheson said she has been working as a substitute for over a decade and has not yet seen a raise in wages. She went on to say that the the need for substitute teaching, as well as the jobs requirements, have increased over the years but the district has failed to recognize that.

“I have been talking since last year with them about this subject and it just keeps getting postponed and postponed,” said Etcheson. “That’s why I came to the board meeting, in hopes that they would discuss it and come to a fair agreement with us.”

Unit 5 says they will discuss the matter at the next board meeting. They hope to finally reach an understanding with the teachers.
