BLOOMINGTON – Suicides in McLean County ticked up slightly year over year, following the national trend.

Mclean County saw 25 suicides in 2016.

White males over 40 years old were at the greatest risk.

Studies show middle age and financial concerns can be driving factors for that demographic.

There is a free number to call if you or someone you know is suicidal.

McLean County Coroner Dr. Kathleen Davis told us, “We all know 911 for heart attacks or strokes or any other type of emergency, but 211 is for mental health emergency. Also, 211 is an easy number to remember.”

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention says warning signs to watch for include a person talking about being a burden to others and having no reason to live.
