BLOOMINGTON, Ill.– The Sunnyside Community Garden & Food Forest at West Bloomington Active Garden is giving back to the community at its weekly free market.
They distribute free produce at the event including potato, squash, tomatoes, zucchinis, and peppers. Co-founder Jan Turner said it started as her daughters school project in 2016, then took off from there.
“Well every Wednesday night at 6:30 we have what we call a free market, and we come out here and harvest what’s available, we put it out on a table and let people take what they need,” Turner said.
There has been a volunteer shortage at the garden according to Turner, and she will be holding an open house to discuss the future of the garden at 4 p.m. Sept. 6 at the garden.
