Court documents show the victim of a stabbing death in Peoria was stabbed 20 times with a butter knife in the back.

Friday, Thurmen Ellis was charged with first degree murder for the death of William Edwards. Ellis was reportedly trying to buy marijuana from Edwards, but couldn’t afford it. He planned to go back later that night and take it from Edwards. The stabbing happened September 7 on the 200 block of Crestwood, but Edwards’ body wasn’t discovered until September 9.

Surveillance video from across the street showed Ellis, and his mother confirmed his identity. He was arrested Thursday.

Ellis is being held on a $2 million bond. He faces up to 60 years in prison if convicted.
